Join us for an autumn paddling experience in Nanticoke Country, from historic Phillips Landing to the heart of Laurel, Delaware. This sojourn will cover close to 7 miles of Broad Creek on an incoming tide. Along the way, your guide will help you identify the plants and animals of the creek, including Baldcypress, Wild Rice, Bald Eagles, Wood Ducks, and more. You’ll learn about the 1904 train wreck of the Norfolk Express, and the world-famous sailing rams built in Bethel, DE, in the 19th century. We’ll also follow in the Nanticoke wake of two historic luminaries, Captain John Smith and Harriet Tubman. We’ll meet at Roger C. Fisher Park in Laurel at 10:00 a.m. for a portage to Phillips Landing at the mouth of Broad Creek. From Phillips Landing, we’ll paddle back to Roger C. Fisher Park for an arrival time around 3:00 p.m.

After the Sunday paddle, we’ll meet in Laurel for drinks and food on the deck at Abbott’s on Broad Creek.

LIMITED TO: 14 participants
LEVEL: Advanced (due to ~7 mile distance)
COST: $20 portage fee if you bring your own boat. $35/solo kayak or $60/tandem kayak (seats two). If you choose a tandem, please bring a paddling partner.
